Nation Wars V Finale

Team Revolution’s Optimus captained the Netherlands to a 2nd place finish at Nation Wars V.

The offline finals of Nation Wars V were played live in Paris on Sunday 22nd April. The Netherlands played against Mexico in the first semi final, while Finland and South Korea battled it out on the other side of the bracket.

Netherlands vs Mexico

Game 1: Optimus vs JimRising

Optimus dominates JimRising with multiple hellion run byes suppressing the Mexicans zergs economy and Optimus rolls over JimRising in the mid game with a scary mech army. A strong start to the series for the Netherlands.

Game 2: Optimus vs Special
A close TvT results in Optimus coming out on the wrong side of a basetrade as Special takes game 2 for Mexico.
Game 3: Special vs uThermal
A fantastic 22-minute mech vs bio TvT on acid plant ends with a Special victory, after repeated devestating harassment from both sides. Special’s hellion usage and uThermal’s mass liberator positioning played major factors in shaping this game which ended with Special killing over 100 scvs throughout the duration of the map and putting Mexico 2-1 up in the series.
Game 4: Special vs Harstem
Harstem continues his brilliance in the competition so far with an unorthodox blink stalker disruptor style. Harstem brings down the Mexican tyrant to make it to game 5.
Game 5: Harstem vs Cham
An insane hold from Harstem against a massive roach attack earns the Dutch protoss the victory after being 60 army supply down.
Game 6: Harstem vs Special
Boosting his Nation Wars V stats to 16-1, Harstem once again plays a stunning game vs Special. He comes from behind to win the game with brutal zealot run byes and impressive disruptor control, once again tearing Special apart and the Netherlands make it to the final of Nation Wars V!
On the other side of the bracket South Korea beat Finland 4-0 as soO all-kills the Finnish side.

This lined up a stunning bo9 final between the Netherlands and South Korea.

Netherlands vs South Korea

Game 1: uThermal vs MMA
Game 1 of the final went Netherlands way as uThermal dominates MMA with a devestating early cyclone attack which crippled the Korean Terran’s economy.
Game 2: uThermal vs soO
Blackpink was the venue for game 2 and uThermal decided to bring out the proxy 3 rax build. SoO scouted it early on, however was not able to stop the onslaught of marines which easily took down soO’s second base. uThermal followed up with a cyclone attack and he ended the game in style, dropping a mule in his opponents base. 2-0 to Netherlands.
[at 2-0 up] We all started to believe that we could really do it. The whole week we’ve been hyping up each other that we are capable of taking out the titans

Game 3: uThermal vs INnoVation
A powerful 2-2 timing from INnoVation ends the game with a decisive doom drop into the main as the Korean ace takes map 3 on Neon Violet Square.
Game 4: INnoVation vs uThermal
Netherlands choose to use their insta revive on uThermal to give the Dutch Terran a second shot at taking out INnoVation. However the gamble doesn’t pay off for the Netherlands, as a brilliant drop and defence play from INnoVation crushes uThermal, a fantastic example of top-tier decision making and multitasking on Abiogenesis.
Game 5: Optimus vs INnoVation
Team Revolution’s Dutch Terran returns to the stage for game 5 on Acid Plant. INnoVation takes a strong early game advantage with some well microed skirmishes in the middle of the map and he converts it into the map win taking us to game 6. 3-2 Korea.
Game 6: INnoVation vs Harstem
Once again INnoVation makes it look easy as he dissects Harstem in game 6 on Backwater. The Korean Terran appeared to be at the top of his game and it would be down to Harstem once again to prevent Korea taking the series.
Game 7: INnoVation vs Harstem
Netherland’s star man of the tournament Harstem showed yet another brilliant game to beat INnoVation in game 7. After a good defence against a proxy star port, Harstem kept the pressure on and managed to defeat INnoVation’s liberator heavy force with a scary tempest colossi composition. 4-3 Korea.
Game 8: Harstem vs INnoVation
South Korea revive INnoVation for game 8 on Catalyst in a bid to take the series. Unprepared for an early attack, Harstem takes massive economic damage and loses the game as INnoVation comfortably runs him over in the mid game. South Korea are Nation Wars V Champions winning the final 5-3 and walking away with $30000.

Harstem was the star man of the tournament with an impressive 18-3 win record.

I think Harstem really thrives on momentum and support and that is why he did so well this event.

-Optimus

Team Revolution’s Optimus and his Netherlands team walked away $15000 richer.

I think we can all look back at the event in a week from now and be very very proud of ourselves. Its been a very long while since we have put our name on the world map in terms of StarCraft dominance
